Whether you choose to do 1 or all of these things during your day, with Spring upon us it is a good time to start implementing them. With new beginnings also comes renewed motivation and freshness, and the more we can embark on refreshing and renewing our body after the hibernation of winter, the better we are going to feel coming into summer.
1. Drink plenty of water daily. This is key for adequate detoxification, energy production, cellular support, concentration, better sports performance, and generally supporting and cleansing all organs. Ideally drinking your bodyweight in mls each half hour is the amount your body requires for optimal hydration, in which your body will actually absorb that water. Of course, drinking more fluid with exercise is also essential to keep the muscle energy optimal, and assisting in flushing excess lactic acid.
2. Keep at least one of your meals daily 70% raw. This is easier to do in the summer time as we tend to thrive on more salads and fresh fruits. By having a variety of different vegetables, salads and fruits each day it not only ensure adequate enzyme and vitality through our food, but also provides us with a variety of phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals to assist detoxfication, energy production and anti oxidant effects.
3. Do some vigorous exercise 3 x week. Most of us are pretty sedentary during the day at work. By doing some vigourous activity at least 3 x week whether it be running, squash, tennis, a work out, boxing etc whatever your pleasure, make sure it gets the heart pumping to increase our cardiovascular health and improve cellular oxygenation. Do not over do this type of exercise though as it can stress your body too much.
4. Do some nourishing, supporting, calming exercise 2 x week. Whether this be yoga, pilates, tai chi, this type of exercise helps support our adrenals by creating a better state of balance in our system, as well as toning muscles, improving oxygen flow and creating a heightened sense of body awareness.
5. Get adequate sleep. You should aim to get no less than 6 hours per night. Lack of sleep has been linked to not only obesity, but also depression, lowered immunity and more. This is due to a disruption in hormones and neurotransmitters , as well as lack of adequate detoxification as this is what your body does over the full 8 hours. A good quality sleep is essential, stay tuned to an upcoming post on sleep.
6. Add protein to each meal. This will ensure your blood sugars remain stable throughout the day, keeping energy, concentration and satiety balanced. Whether this is from eggs, chicken, fish, meat, quinoa, yogurt, protein powder, nuts and seeds is your choice. However, try not to have red meat more than 3 x week do to its acidity.
7. Be grateful daily. Every day is a new day, and it is good practice to be grateful for what we have on a daily basis. Things sometimes don't go our way, but there is always a flipside and we are overall happier when we are grateful.
8. Aim to get at least 20 -30 minutes in the sun each day. Now that the sun is out, make the most of it and get your Vitamin D stores up. This will assist with cellular health, mood, sleep and energy.
9. Start each day with lemon or Apple cider vinegar in water. This helps to alkalise, detoxify and prepare for digestion.
10. Include green vegies/salads with each meal. This provides nourishing and detoxifying phytonutrients and vitamins/minerals, as well as keeping your system alkaline to keep your system functioning at optimal level. This can be raw in a salad, cooked vegies, chopped leaves through a smoothie etc.
So there you go, include some of these in your daily rituals and you will start to feel clean, healthy and vibrant.
